Staying the Course

DAY 7

Morning Reading - Genesis 18-19
Evening Reading - Matthew 6

Today we complete the first week of our one year journey through the bible, which means we only have fifty one weeks to go! As I have mentioned before, this journey will require patience and endurance. If you fall behind in your reading, try to catch up OR just pick up where we are in the calendar. You may have time later in the year to go back and read the passages you missed. Don't feel guilty about missing a reading. The most important thing is that you stay "on board" and keep reading.

I will try to post helpful commentary and resources as much as possible. I truly love studying and meditating on God's word. Today I would encourage you to read the following collect from the Book of Common Prayer:

Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for
our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

5 comments:

  1. I have a rather low regard for Lot at this time.

Thanks for the above prayer and words of encouragement. I know I will need to draw on them in this enduraning task.

  2. Thank you for having the link to the reading on here. It makes it easier for me to catch up.

I again agree with Kathy in my regards to Lot.

I am having trouble keeping the journal. I seem to be at a loss for words when I sit to write. Any suggestions?

  3. JOURNAL! What journal? I missed something. I've been jotting my questions to myself to try to look something up later but I haven't been keeping a journal. Guess I need the complete assignment.

  4. Lot is an interesting character. I have always thought that if Lot were alive in the 21st century, he would probably be a guest on the Jerry Springer show. In any event, we have to remember that the human condition has not changed in the nearly 4,000 years since Lot lived. The bible teaches us that God does not work "around" or "in spite of" human brokenness, but "through" human sin and brokenness.

Regarding the journal. Don't worry, Kathy, if you are not keeping the journal. In the Defender I suggested keeping a M.A.P. journal, which stands for Message, Application, and Prayer.

Christy, I would suggest keeping the journal going, but don't worry if your words are few. Focus on the application and prayer sections. Ask yourself - "How does this scripture challenge me? Where is God calling me grow in my faith? What action can I take in response to this scripture?"

Each daily reflection may not seem very insightful, but over time you will begin to see what God is saying to you. You will begin to see patterns in your comments and daily prayers.

  5. Thanks for the reminder about MAP and the DEFENDER.

Rachel is another of those amazing people of the Bible that just up and says yes to something out of blue -- WHAT FAITH! Well, that's a 'M' I need to 'P' about to 'A'.

This is a great Bible Study.
