Seeking Peace

Here is the quote attrubuted to Martin Luther King, Jr. Even though it has since been discovered that this attribution was an error, the sentiment of these words is still very appropriate as we reflect the death of Osama bin Laden.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

  1. I've been rather numb about this event. Thanks for this reflection.

  2. While trying to catch up I have come to a deep appreciation for the daily schedule within THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR. Trying to read more is too much for me to absorb and dwell on. I'm trying to revamp my efforts into more sessions per day so I can think on each portion while I do my daily tasks. I am reminded AGAIN how I benefit being in the Word each day and actually get more done with a more cheerful attitude. Now if I could remember this instead of getting in a rush with life's tasks and putting my quiet time with God off.

  4. Kathy...I appreciate the difficulty of trying to "catch up" with the daily readings. Trying to read too much in one sitting can be frustrating. I have come to realize that if I miss a large section of readings, that it is best to pick up with "today's" reading and move on. I need to let go of the need to read every word in one year and realize that I am on a journey of continual learning and spiritual growth that will continue well beyond this one year.
