This week we will encounter some of the most famous of Jesus' parables, including "The Prodigal Son" and the "The Rich Man and Lazarus." These parables are unique to the gospel of Luke and are beloved by many. On Friday (Day 35), the daily reading begins with the phrase "on the way to Jerusalem" (Luke 17:11). This is a literary device that Luke uses frequently to remind us that the whole story of Jesus is moving closer and closer to Jerusalem, where he will die and be raised from the grave on the third day.
