Sunday Sermon Highlights

Some might think it strange, but I actually like to clean house. Many of us expend our energy cleaning and organizing our physical house, while often neglecting the needed care of our spiritual house. Throughout his ministry, Jesus focused intently on the condition of the human heart. Jesus taught that it is not what is on the outside that defiles a person (physical house), but rather it is what is on the inside that defiles a person (spiritual house).

Throughout the season of Lent, we will be focusing on the condition of our hearts, the condition of our spiritual house. As the psalmist declared, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:11). In order to lay foundation for the season of Lent, I am proposing 3 fundamentals of spiritual housecleaning.
  • Recognize that the house needs to be cleaned

  • Respond with action

  • Receive God's grace

  1. Hello, Father. As a guest to Holy Innocents' on this day, I just wanted to thank you again for the good word as well as for your faithfulness in performing the liturgy.

Last time I was there was several years ago, and I wasn't inclined to return. I'm a hopeless curmudgeon when it comes to such things…

I'll see you again when next I'm in town.
